George Taylor (New York Representative)

George Taylor ( * October 19, 1820 in Wheeling, West Virginia; † January 18, 1894 in Washington DC) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1857 and 1859 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

George Taylor was born about five years after the end of the British - American War in Wheeling, that at that time was still part of Virginia. He enjoyed a good education. He then studied medicine and law. After qualifying as a lawyer, he began to practice in Indiana. In 1844 he moved to Alabama in 1848 to Brooklyn, where he continued his activities as a lawyer. He held several local offices. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1856 he was in the second electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of James ST Stranahan on March 4, 1857. He suffered in his re-election bid in 1858, a defeat and retired after the March 3, 1859 from the Congress of. Thereafter, he joined again as a lawyer in Washington DC and led it until his death on 18 January 1894. His body was then buried in the Rock Creek Cemetery.
