George W. Brown

George William Brown (* May 30, 1860 in Holstein, Ontario, † February 17, 1919 in Regina ) was a Canadian politician and lawyer. From 1910 to 1915 he was vice- governor of the province of Saskatchewan.

Biography

Brown studied law at the University of Toronto. In 1882 he moved to the former Northwest Territories and settled just outside of Regina, where he worked as a farmer. In 1889 he opened a law office in Regina. In 1894 he was elected as a candidate of the Liberal in the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories. Twice he succeeded in re-election until he finally had to resign in 1903 for health reasons.

Brown invested in extensive land which he had bought from the resident Métis and generated a large profit. His firm was one of the most prestigious in Regina, which is why he heard several boards of local companies. At the direction of his friend Thomas Walter Scott sworn Governor General Lord Grey Brown on 14 October 1910 as Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan. This representative office he held until October 17, 1915.
