George W. Casey, Jr.

George William Casey Jr. ( born July 22, 1948 in Sendai, Japan ) is a retired general of the U.S. Army and was dated 10 April 2007 to 11 April 2011, the 36th Chief of Staff of the Army. From October 2004 until 10 February 2007 he was commander of coalition forces in Iraq (Multi- National Force Iraq ).

Background and education

Casey is the son of General George William Casey, Sr., who as commander of the 1st Cavalry Division in Vietnam died in a helicopter crash in 1970 killed. Casey grew at the stationing locations of his father in Germany and the USA. He went on to Boston College High School in Dorchester (Massachusetts ), made 1970 a bachelor's degree from Georgetown University in Washington, DC Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service in 1980 and a master's degree at the University of Denver Josef Korbel School of International Studies in each compartment International Relations. During his studies in Washington, he also received officer training in the ROTC.

Military career

He served, inter alia, 1995 to 1996 as chief of staff of the Fifth U.S. Corps, 7th US-Armee/US Army Europe from 1999 to 2001 as the Commanding General of the U.S. 1st Armored Division. He was also in 1996/97 as part of IFOR in Yugoslavia. From 2001 to 2003 he was the Director of Strategic Planning and Policy (J- 5) of the Joint Staff. After this use, he served from 2003 to June 2004 as Deputy Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army. In October 2004, he finally, the Multi- National Force Iraq ( MNF -I) was assumed when he took over this command already provisionally in July of Ricardo S. Sanchez. In January 2007 it was announced that David H. Petraeus Casey should follow to the post of commander of MNF -I. After confirmation by the Armed Services Committee on February 10, 2007 Casey gave the command to Petraeus.

On April 10, 2007 Casey took over in Washington, DC the post of the 36th Chief of Staff of the Army of Peter J. Schoomaker.

On 11 April 2011 he handed over the Fort Myer Military Base (Virginia) the capacities to Martin E. Dempsey and was transferred the same day to retire.
