George W. Ladd

George Washington Ladd ( born September 28, 1818 in Augusta, Massachusetts, † January 30, 1892 in Bangor, Maine ) was an American politician. Between 1879 and 1883 he represented the state of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Born in present-day Maine George Ladd attended the public schools of his home and then the Kents Hill Seminary. After that, he was commercially active in various fields in Bangor. He was, among other things, druggist and wood, commission and grocers. In addition, he worked in the railroad industry.

Politically, Ladd joined in the 1870s, the short-lived Greenback Party. In the congressional elections of 1878 he was appointed as their candidate in the fourth electoral district of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There he entered on March 4, 1879, the successor of Llewellyn Powers. After a re-election in 1880 he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1883 two legislative sessions. From 1879 to 1881 he was chairman of the committee responsible for supervising the expenditure of the Post Ministry.

For the year 1882 elections, he was not confirmed. Then he withdrew again from politics. George Ladd died on January 30, 1892 in Bangor and was also buried there.
