George W. Malone

George Wilson Malone ( born August 7, 1890 in Fredonia, Wilson County, Kansas, † May 19 1961 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician of the Republican Party and a member of the Senate of the United States.

Biography

After attending the University of Nevada in Reno, which he left in 1917 with a degree, he was drafted for World War II and served in the artillery. Possibly as early as 1919 began an unofficial career for the Secret Service in England and France.

From 1927 to 1935 he was in any case a government- employed engineer in Nevada and was a candidate for the Senate in 1934 for the first time, subject, however, the member of the Democratic Party, Key Pittman, with about a third of the votes were cast on him.

In 1944, he turned again to the Senate election and was defeated with about 41 percent of the vote just the Democrats Pat McCarran. Then in 1946 he managed to move into the Senate; he hit with 55 percent of the vote the Democrats Berkeley L. Bunker. In 1952 he succeeded yet reelection, but in 1958 he lost to Democrat Howard Walter Cannon.

During his time in Congress, he presented himself as arch-conservative Senator of the right wing of his party and remained after his election defeat in Washington DC worked as a consultant. In 1960, he tried to get elected to the House of Representatives from Nevada, which did not succeed.

George Wilson Malone was buried after his death at the Arlington National Cemetery.
