George Yardley
George Harry Yardley III ( born November 3, 1928 in Hollywood, California, † August 12, 2004 in Newport Beach, California ) was an American professional basketball player. Between 1953 and 1960 he played in the NBA for the crews of the Fort Wayne Pistons / Detroit Pistons and Syracuse Nationals. Yardley was 1.95 m tall and played on the position of power forward / small forward. He was the first player to score 2,000 points in a season.
Yardley died in 2004 of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Awards
Yardley was six times in a row, selected from 1955 to 1960, the NBA All-Star. In 1958 he received the appointment to the All- NBA First Team.
Despite his short career, was inducted into the Naismith Yardley Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on May 6, 1996.
