Georges de Beauregard

Georges de Beauregard ( born December 23, 1920 in Marseille, Bouches -du -Rhône, † September 10, 1984 in Paris) was a French film producer. He is considered a pioneer of the Nouvelle Vague and was known for his enthusiasm and willingness to take risks in financial terms.

Biography

After studying law and military service during the Second World War de Beauregard worked first as a businessman and as a journalist. In 1947 he founded the Agence Universel press. In 1951, he came as a distributor for the film. As a producer de Beauregard worked from 1955 first in Spain. In collaboration with director Juan Antonio Bardem, he produced the famous socially critical films The death of a cyclist and Main Street.

Upon his return to his native France, he came up with Jean -Luc Godard in contact. With him as a director, and Jean -Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg in the lead roles produced de Beauregard 1960 Breathless. The gangster film was a huge success and de Beauregard Godard master producer.

Also succeeded the producer to promote some promising young talents of French cinema. Among them, Claude Chabrol, Eric Rohmer, Jacques Rivette and Jean -Pierre Melville. 1968 de Beauregard was appointed to the jury of the Berlinale. Shortly before his death, his life's work of the French Film Academy was awarded an Honorary César.
