Georges Michel (painter)

Georges Michel ( born January 12, 1763 in Paris, † June 7, 1843 ) was a French landscape painter.

Life

Michel was a pupil of Nicolas- Antoine Taunay ( 1755-1833 ). His landscapes originated in the rural area of ​​Paris. The windmills of the (still) rural Montmartre in its landscapes play a central role; it is this half also called the Ruisdael of Montmartre. According to Thieme- Becker a temporarily little attention precursor of the Barbizon school, which is represented worldwide in the 1920s in the museums since its rediscovery.
