Georgetown, Ascension Island

Georgetown is the capital of Ascension Island, which da Cunha is part of the British overseas territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan.

The village lies on the west coast of the island and is grouped around the St. Mary's Church and the Exiles Club, further there are still some small shops, a hospital, a library and other public buildings. The only school of the island is, however, in Two Boats Village in the interior of the island.

Foresees is the place from Cross Hill, on which there is a fort with Victorian and newer guns. Another hill fort is located at the other end of the village and is used as a museum.

In Georgetown currently lives with around 560 inhabitants, half of the island 's population.
