Georgi Kandelaki

Giorgi Kandelaki (Georgian გიორგი კანდელაკი; born April 10, 1974 in Gori, Georgian SSR, Soviet Union ) is a former Georgian heavyweight boxer.

Amateur

Kandelaki won the 1992 World Junior Championships in Montreal in 1993 and the European Championship in Bursa in the heavyweight ( to 91 kg). The discharged in Tampere in the same year World Championships he beat, among others, Bert Teuchert and penetrated into the finals, but did not occur in the final battle against Félix Savón and thus took the second place.

At the World Cup tournament in 1994 in Bangkok, he achieved a third place after a semi-final defeat against Savón. In the fight before he had defeated the Nigerians Friday Ahunanya. At the World Championships in Berlin in 1995, he retired after a further noncombat loss to Savón out in the quarterfinals.

He took in 1996 at the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta in part, suggested there among other things Wojciech Bartnik, then lost in the quarterfinals on points again against Félix Savón. At the European Championships in Vejle, Denmark, he left in the quarter-final against Christophe Mendy.

In its third 1997 World Championships in Budapest, he went to super heavyweight, was able to prevail against the Cuban Alexis Rubalcaba, among others, against German Representative Vitali boat, Jean -Francois Bergeron, Syarhey Ljachowitsch and not without controversy in the final and was an amateur world champion in the highest weight class.

Professional

1998 Kandelaki began his professional career in the United Kingdom at Panix Promotions, where Lennox Lewis and Luan Krasniqi, at the start of their careers under contract. He could not convince but despite victories against unnamed opponents. In 2002 he won the insignificant WBU title. In 2003 he finished then unbeaten after an eye injury his career.

After his playing career, he founded the National Professional Boxing Association of Georgia and serves as its president.
