Georgie Stoll

George " Georgie " Martin (E. ) Stoll ( born May 7, 1902 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, † 17 January 1985 in Monterey, California ) was an American film composer and music director in more than 90 films and won at the Academy Awards 1946 the Oscar for best film music in the film holiday in Hollywood.

Life

Stoll began his career as a film composer and musical director in the film industry in Hollywood in 1935 as composer of the film " I Wished On The Moon" for the film The Big Broadcast of 1936. During the following thirty years, he was a songwriter, musical director and composer at the involved in film music for over 90 films.

1940 was the first time nominated along with Roger Edens for an Oscar for best film music and that music is our world ( 1939). At the Academy Awards in 1941 he was nominated Edens twice: first for the Academy Award for Best Song for " Our Love Affair " from the movie Hot rhythms in Chicago ( 1940), the other for the best music in this movie. Another Oscar nomination followed in 1943 with Eden for the music in the film For Me and My Gal ( 1942). He got a first sole nomination at the Academy Awards in 1945 for the music in the Music Film Me in St. Louis ( 1944).

In 1946 he finally won the Oscar for best film music for the film Holiday in Hollywood ( 1945).

Along with Percy Faith in 1956 he was nominated for an Oscar for best film music in the musical film Love Me or Leave ( 1955). At the Academy Awards in 1957 he was nominated together with Johnny Green for another Oscar for best music in a music film and indeed for Viva Las Vegas ( Meet Me in Las Vegas, 1956), before it was 1963 the last time nominated for an Oscar and indeed for the music in the film play with me ( Billy Rose's Jumbo, 1962).

His Oscar was auctioned on 10 September 2001 by actor Kevin Spacey for 156 875 U.S. dollars at an auction in Los Angeles and then donated by this the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
