Georgine von Milinkovič

Georgine of Milinkovic (also Milinković; * July 7, 1913 in Prague, † 26 February 1986 in Munich) was a German opera singer with the voice Mezzo soprano.

Life

Georgine of Milinkovic originally came from a Croatian family. She studied singing at the Music Academy in Zagreb and was a student of Maria Kostrenčić, who had been the teacher of Zinka Milanov soprano. More vocal studies led by Milinkovic to Vienna.

As an opera singer she made her debut in 1935 at the Opera House of Zagreb as Erda in the Yugoslav premiere of the opera Das Rheingold by Richard Wagner. From 1937 to 1940 Georgine of Milinkovic was an ensemble member at the Stadttheater Zurich. There she sang in 1938 the role of the Countess Helfenstein in the world premiere of the opera Mathis der Maler by Paul Hindemith. In 1940 she was engaged at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. From 1945 to 1948 she was engaged at the Prague State Opera. During this time she continued to guest performances led to Munich and Vienna. 1948 Georgine of Milinkovic eventually became a permanent member of the State Opera in Munich and Vienna.

She appeared regularly at the Salzburg Festival. In 1952 she starred in the premiere of the opera Die Liebe der Danae by Richard Strauss as Alcmene in Salzburg. In 1952 she sang the Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In 1959, the housekeeper in the opera The Silent Woman, also from Richard Strauss, on the side of Fritz Wunderlich, Hermann Prey, Hilde Güden and Hans Hotter. From 1954 to 1957 Georgina was one of Milinkovic regular cast member of the Bayreuth Festival. They took over both the great mezzo- soprano and alto parts in the music dramas of Richard Wagner, as well as smaller roles: from 1954 to 1957, she sang every year Fricka in The Ring of the Nibelungen, also in 1954, 1955 and 1957, the Grimgerde and 1956 Siegrune in The Valkyrie. 1954, 1955 and 1957, she interpreted the Second Norn in Götterdämmerung. 1956/1957 she also sang the Magdalene in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.

Georgine of Milinkovic occurred 1948-1969 at the Vienna State Opera in more than 500 performances in 23 different games. She sang a focus on the great dramatic mezzo- soprano roles in the operas of Giuseppe Verdi ( Azucena, Maddalena, Princess Eboli, Amneris ) and Richard Strauss ( Herodias, Clytemnestra ). Other leading roles were the title role in Carmen by Georges Bizet, as well as Ortrud in Lohengrin and Brangäne in Tristan und Isolde by Richard Wagner. Later in Vienna and comic roles and character parts were added.

She has performed at the Grand Opéra Paris ( 1952 Herodias, 1953 Brangäne ), at the Teatro San Carlos in Lisbon ( 1952 as Herodias ), at the Opera of Monte Carlo ( 1952 as Herodias ), at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna (1954 Rheingold - Fricka ), at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires (1954 Brangäne ) and at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo (1955 as Kundry ). Great success they had in the season 1957/1958 and at the Covent Garden Opera in London as Clytemnestra and as Fricka.

Georgine of Milinkovic remained until 1968 a permanent member of the State Opera in Munich and Vienna. With the role of Marcellina she took in 1968 in Cuvilliés Theatre farewell to her audience in Munich. The last time she was in October 1969 at the Vienna State Opera, in turn, to listen as Marcellina.

The passed on through radio broadcasts, live recordings and records of musical work of Georgina Milinkovic was partially re-released in recent years also on CD.
