Georgs Andrejevs

George Andrejevs ( born October 30, 1932 in Tukums ) is a Latvian politician and since 2004 a member of the European Parliament. In the European Parliament he is a member of the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe.

From 1953 to 1959 Andrejevs worked as a paramedic in a first aid station in Riga. In 1959 he was admitted as a doctor in 1960 and also as an anesthetist. Andrejevs has now 1959-1962 Head of the P. Stradiņš clinic in Riga, before he moved to the Medical Institute in Riga, where he and 1962-1964 Researcher, 1964-1974 Lecturer, and finally from 1974 to 1990 Head of Department professor was.

Andrejevs now moved into politics and was from 1990 to 1992 Member of the Latvian Supreme Soviet. There was secretary of the Committee on Foreign Affairs. After the independence of Latvia Andrejevs in the fifth Saeima (1993 - 1995) was chosen. He was from 1993 to 1994 again secretary of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and also had the office of the Head of the Latvian delegation to the Euro Europe held. From 1992 to 1994 Andrejevs was Latvian Foreign Minister.

Andrejevs now retired from active politics and was from 1994 to 1995 Head of Department at the Latvian Academy of Medicine. In 1995 he became a full member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, further he received in the same year the membership of the Royal College of Anesthetists in London.

First, from 1995 to 1998 as Ambassador to Canada, Andrejevs Latvia took then from 1998 to 2004 as ambassador to the Euro Europe. During this time, he was from 2000 to 2001 Chairman of the Permanent Representatives of the Minister in the Euro Europe, and from 2001 to 2003 Chairman of the Working Group of the Committee of Ministers for cooperation between the Euro Europe and the European Union. Andrejevs also held the post of interim president of the Diplomatic Corps of Europe. In 2004 he was elected to the European Parliament, of which he is a member since then.

Andrejevs is commander of the Three Star Order.
