Gerald Eckert

Gerald Eckert (* December 27, 1960 in Nuremberg, Germany) is a German composer, cellist and painter living in Eckernförde.

Biography

Gerald Eckert studied 1983-1984 Physics at the Friedrich- Alexander -University Erlangen- Nuremberg, before 1985 to 1990 the study of cello, piano and conducting at the Conservatory followed in Nuremberg. From 1987 he studied until 1992 Mathematics at the University of Erlangen- Nuremberg, parallel since 1989 composition with Wilfried Jentzsch. There he studied composition with Walter Zimmermann at the Folkwang Hochschule in the Ruhr area and joined in the period from 1992 to 1995 studied at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, where he studied composition with Nicolaus A. Huber and electroacoustic composition with Dirk Reith. In addition, he participated in various composition courses at James Dillon, Brian Ferneyhough and Jonathan Harvey.

1996/97 he spent working and research stay at CCRMA ( Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics ), Stanford University, California / USA. In 1998 he was a lecturer at the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music and at the International Festival & Seminar in Akiyoshidai / Japan. 2000/ 01 was followed by a lecturer of composition and architecture at the Technical University of Darmstadt.

In 2000 he realized the dance project "Poetry " with Diane Neiman and Ensemble horizons, as he received a scholarship this year in the " Artist's House of Schleswig -Holstein" in Eckernförde. In 2006 he was composer in residence at the Zurich days for new music. In 2008 he realized in collaboration with the Academy of Arts in Berlin and the State of Brandenburg, together with the choreographer Katinka Walter a project for the Network for New Musik.2011 he realized together with the choreographer / dancer Mikael Honesseau the dance project "Compared to 2 ".

Since 1989 he is also working on own pictures and implemented since 1994 various exhibitions and installations. Catalogs published in 1995, 2006 and 2007.

Gerald Eckert is co-initiator of the " ciphers " festival Kiel in 2006 and the " Provinzlärm " festival Eckernförde 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013.

Since 2012 he has been a professor of composition at the Chung- Ang University in Seoul - held Anseong / South Korea.

Awards (selection )

In 1993, Eckert an award at the Luigi Russolo Competition in Italy and the " C. Gulbenkian Prize " in Portugal. Three years later he was awarded the Crane Stone Award.

In 2003, we awarded him a prize ( honorable mention ) at the " Salvatore Martirano Competition" in the United States and the first prize at the 30th International Competition of Bourges in France in 2003 and first prize at the 3rd International Composers Competition " Elisabeth Schneider Award " in Freiburg. In 2005 he received a scholarship from the Academy of Arts in Berlin and the first prize of the 50th Stuttgart Composition Prize 2005. Followed in 2006 a scholarship to Venice, Künstlerhof Schreyahn 2009 Villa Aurora Los Angeles in 2010, Villa Serpentara / Rome ( Olevano Romano ) 2010 and the Künstlerhaus Lukas Ahrenshoop 2013
