Gerald Ellison

Gerald Ellison KCVO PC ( * August 19, 1910, † October 18, 1992 ) was an Anglican bishop. He was from 1955 to 1973 Bishop of Chester from 1973 to 1981 and Bishop of London.

Youth and priests Years

Ellison was the son of a royal chaplain. He went to Westminster School and studied at New College (Oxford). He belonged to the crew of the Oxford University Boat Club at the Boat Races in 1932 and 1933 and was later referee of the Boat Race.

Ellison studied at the seminar Westcott House in Cambridge and was ordained a deacon in 1935, priest in 1936, his first job was as a curate in Sherborne. 1937 to 1939 he was chaplain of Cyril Forster Garbett, the Bishop of Winchester. During the Second World War, he was a chaplain in the Royal Naval and from 1943 Kaplan Cyril Garbett as Archbishop vonYork. From 1946 to 1950 he was Vicar of St Mark's in Portsea.

1950 Ellison was he was ernannt.1955 to Suffragan Bishop of Willesden Bishop of Chester, and from 1973 to 1981 Bishop of London .. From 1960 to 1981 he was Lord spiritual member of the House of Lords. In 1981 the Victorian Order Knight Commander in the stage, he was awarded. After his retirement, he was temporarily Vicar General of the Diocese of Bermuda.
