Gerald Fried

Gerald Fried ( born February 13, 1928 in New York City ) is an American composer and musician.

Life

Gerald Fried learned in his childhood and studied oboe at the Juilliard School Music. He was then taken as principal oboist in the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the New York Little Orchestra. For his childhood friend and schoolmate Stanley Kubrick then he composed for his first four feature films Fear and Desire, The Tiger of New York, The Killing and Paths of Glory music. From 1956 he was a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, and from 1960 also a freelance composer, having composed music for Revue Studios until then.

After Fried in the 1960s, especially for television series such as Gilligan's Island, for Solo Oncel and spacecraft composed Enterprise, he was awarded for his music in the documentation The pairings of animals with an Oscar nomination for Best Original Score its biggest ever reward for film music. In addition to his film work, he also taught film composition at UCLA.
