Brown cranesbill (Geranium phaeum )

The brown cranesbill (Geranium phaeum ) is a plant from the family of Geranium Family. It is native in präalpinen range, but now naturalized until after Southern wild as a neophyte. It prefers to grow in shady and often humid forest fringes, edges of bushes and in park.

Description

The brown cranesbill is a perennial herbaceous plant. In the heyday of the plant is about 50 cm high. The vibrant green leaves are lobed pinnatifid. It flowers from May to June, 14 to 18 mm wide, dark purple- black flowers, which are sometimes pink or white in exceptional cases. The fruit has the typical pantograph- like shape.

System

On the basis of fruit characteristics Geranium phaeum as well as some other species are summarized in a separate subgenus ( Erodioideae ).

By G. phaeum a variety of varieties bred for use in gardening and landscaping. They differ in terms of plant height, growth in behavior, in the flower color and foliage.
