Gérard Onesta

Gérard Onesta (* August 5, 1960 in Albi ) is a French politician and served from 1999 to 2009 Vice- President of the European Parliament.

Career

Gérard Onesta reached in 1984 a degree in architecture and then worked as director of an architectural practice until his appointment as Vice President in 1999. At the age of 27, he joined the Green Party in France and became a member of the National Council of the Green Party (Les Verts ) By 1987 to 1999. Soon after, he was in charge of internal party organization in the countryside. Initially, only for the Midi-Pyrénées region ( 1991-1992 ) and then at the national level ( 1994-1995 ) worked as Gérard Onesta spokesman for the Greens. In addition, Onesta, 1988 was a co-founder of the Association of European Ecological youth.

His cousin Claude Onesta ( born 1957 ) is coach of the France men's national handball team.
