Gerardo Barbero

Gerardo Barbero Fabián ( born August 21, 1961 in Lanús, Argentina, † March 4, 2001 in Budapest) was an Argentine grandmaster in chess.

Barbero 1978 fourth at the World Youth Championships U18. In 1984, he won the Argentine championship. From the Chess Olympiad 1978 in Buenos Aires until 1994 in Moscow, he played in six Chess Olympiads for Argentina. In 1986 he received the title of International Master in 1987 and a Grand Master.

He played for several clubs in Switzerland and in Austria:

Since 1986 he lived in Budapest, was married to Dr. Katalin Molnar and had a son Janos Americo. Gerardo Barbero died in 2001 from cancer.
