Geography

Gera village near Vienna lies in the wine district in Lower Austria at the northern city limits of Vienna and the only municipality in the district of Wien-Umgebung left sides of the Danube. The area of ​​the municipality covers 35.2 square kilometers. 1.17 percent of the area is forested.

History

In the core Austrian state of Lower Austria, lying on the edge of the March field, the place told the eventful history of Austria. 1805, the cadastral Gera village including Kapellerfeld as free local church was constituted. After the "Anschluss " of Austria into the Third Reich, 1938, the city of Vienna was incorporated. In 1954, the community - with the territory Amendment Act and the reincorporation of the Vienna border communities in the province of Lower Austria - independent again. Only in 1972 the municipality Seyring was incorporated into the municipality of Gera village.

In May 1992, Gera village was elevated to municipality. On 17 December 1998, the Parliament decided northeast of a town of Gera village.

The oldest places in the municipality are Gera village and Seyring. Gera village is first documented in 1200 in Klosterneuburg tradition book, " Viricus of Gerhartesdorf " is witnessing a donation to the monastery.

The oldest written mentions of Seyring also date from the 11th century, it found first mentions than " Seuringe ". Supposedly a ring of lakes surrounded the village have previously, after which the place name could be due.
