Gerasimus of the Jordan

Gerasimos († 475 ) from Lycia became a monk and went as hermits in the Theban desert. Around 450 he moved on to Palestine and founded a monastery at the Jordan with strict ascetic rules.

He hung on the Eutyches and Dioscorus proclaimed by Monophysitism, but was persuaded by Euthymius the Great to the Orthodox faith. His favorite pupil was the anchorite Cyriacus.

His feast day is in the Orthodox Church on March 4, in which the Roman Catholic Church on March 5.
