Gerd Dudek

Gerd Dudek ( born September 28, 1938 in United Döbbern at Breslau, now part of Poland ) is a German jazz saxophonist and flautist -.

After studying music he first played from 1960 to 1964 with Helmut Brandt and Kurt Edelhagen band on the tenor saxophone and the clarinet, then at Joe Nay, before he became a member of the Manfred Schoof Quintet ( with Alexander von Schlippenbach, Buschi Niebergall and Jaki Love time) - then one of the influential European groups in the development of free jazz, which grossed compositions by Bernd Alois Zimmermann. He is a 1966 member of the Globe Unity Orchestra since its founding. In 1968 he undertook as a member of the German All Stars a tour of South America and worked with George Russell and Don Cherry. In 1971 he became a member of the Albert Mangelsdorff Quintet (Asia tour ). Subsequently, he played in a quartet with Alan Skidmore and nobility Roidinger and was one of the founders of the European Jazz quintet with Ali Haurand, with whom he also plays in other groups (eg with Rob van den Broeck and Tony Oxley ).

Dudek also plays soprano saxophone and is a typical example of the Modern Creative style. It has elements of different styles incorporated into his personal musical language. He is considered tasteful, stylish safer, but stylistically open blowers with high capacity to work in an ensemble. This led to disk and CD recordings with Lester Bowie, Joachim Kühn, Dexter Gordon, Vitold Rek and Peter Giger. Dudek also worked as a guest soloist with the NDR and WDR Big Band and is currently a member of the Stefan Heidt Man Project.
