Gerd Wedler

Gerd Wedler ( born August 19, 1929 in Braunschweig, † September 13, 2008 in Erlangen ) was a German chemist.

Life

Wedler put 1949 in the Brunswick High School from. He then studied at the Technical University Braunschweig. His doctoral thesis: "On the decay mechanism of formic acid on nickel contact". This work is the basis for the study of the primary steps of heterogeneous catalysis. From 1966 he worked at the University of Erlangen- Nuremberg as a full professor at the Institute of Physical and Theoretical Chemistry. There he remained until his retirement in 1995.

Work

Gerd Wedler co-founded a research group and a Collaborative Research Centre of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft at the University of Erlangen- Nuremberg and Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences II His field of work included the study of the adsorption and reaction behavior of small molecules on model catalysts.

This work was awarded in 1996 with the Bunsen Medal of the German Bunsen Society for Physical Chemistry. More than 200 publications deal with its scientific results. Wedler wrote in 1982 the "Textbook of Physical Chemistry ". This applies in Germany as a standard textbook of physical chemistry. Even in retirement, he worked on improving and updating this book.
