Gerhard Beil

Gerhard Beil ( born May 28, 1926 in Leipzig, † August 19, 2010 in Berlin) was an SED politician and Minister of Foreign Trade of the GDR.

Life

Beil graduated after elementary school training as a commercial clerk. From 1943 to 1945 he was the Reich Labor Service. In April 1944 he applied for membership in the NSDAP, but was rejected in October 1944.

In 1945 he became Locksmith and worked among others in the sales department of IG Colors in Frankfurt am Main (1946/1947), as a machinist in a coal plant aspen grove, miner at bismuth AG Aue (1949) and Optical Engineer in Leipzig ( 1950-1952 ).

In 1949, at ax of the FDJ. He studied in Berlin 1953/1954 at the University of planned economy and, until 1957 at the Humboldt University with a degree in economics. In 1953 he joined the SED. From 1954 to 1956 he worked as a department and head of department at the State Secretariat for Local Economy. Then on top and main speaker at the Ministry of Foreign Trade. After a complaint for breach of party discipline, he was from 1958 to 1961 researcher at the Trade Representation of the GDR in Austria.

Since 1961 ax was back in the Ministry worked for foreign trade, first as Head of Directorate Western Europe ( to 1965 ), from 1969 to 1976 and as Secretary of State from 1976 as first deputy minister.

Since 1976 he was a candidate, from 1981 to 1989, member of the Central Committee of the SED, since 1977 a member of the Council of Ministers of the GDR. From 1986 to 1990 he was in succession by Horst kettle holes Minister of Foreign Trade of the GDR - Erich Honecker, he accompanied on his travels to the West ..

Hatchet was one of the authors of the " analysis of the economic situation in the GDR with conclusions " along with Gerhard Schurer, Ernst Höfner, Alexander Schalk - Golodkowski and Arno Donda, as a template for the SED Politburo on 30 October 1989. Until his retirement Gerhard Beil was advisor to the government de Maizière.

Ax and his wife were members of the Left Party. Gerhard Beil saw himself as a communist.

Gerhard Beil died on 19 August 2010 of a heart attack in Berlin- Karolinenhof.
