Gerhard Dammann

Gerhard Dammann (* June 30, 1883 in Cologne, † February 21, 1946 in Bad Ischl, born Heinrich Gerhard Dammann ) was a German actor and comedian.

Life

He left school at fourteen and became an acrobat in variety theaters. He crossed in this function and Europe came to Africa and America. At times he was a member of the troupe Hans Hansen Trio. Around 1907 he found access to the film, from 1913 he was in Berlin durable front of the camera.

Dammann was involved in a large number of silent films, many of which were, however, very short. He stood as " Bumke " and from 1913 as " Luny " in the center and excelled with his acrobatic or grotesquely comical skills. Usually he also led to direct myself.

From 1914 to 1916 he was a soldier on the eastern front, after which he created with his wife Hansi Dege the figure of the " Schnurzel ". In 1917, Dammann his own production company. From 1923 he joined under his real name to as " Gerhard". Except for directing and producing he drew several times also responsible for the screenplay. Since the mid- twenties, however, he got into the German cinemas significant competition with the announcement of an American comic actor. 1925 presented his company stopped production.

Dammann had to be satisfied in the following two decades with batch roles in German films by mostly anonymous and often several times appeared as a comic Dicker short. Overall, Gerhard Dammann worked in about 200 films.
