Gerhard Dietrich

Gerhard Dietrich ( born May 12, 1942 in Brandenburg ( Havel ) ) is a former German gymnast who competed for East Germany. His home club was the forward ASK Potsdam.

It was discovered during a screening in physical education his school and received his hometown in the children 's and youth sports school ( KJS ). After graduation in 1960 he moved to the forward ASK Potsdam and was military personnel. In addition to the training, he began studying the physical education teacher.

His biggest international solo success Dietrich won at the European Championships in 1967 by winning a bronze medal each in the horse and jump on pommel horse. In addition, he won a bronze medal with the team. After his sports career seemed to be already over, because the end of 1967 inactive tuberculosis in a series of investigation was in with him found. Nevertheless, he managed after a quarter of hospital stay the leap into the Olympic team.

In the Summer Olympics 1968 in Mexico City, he won with the team of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), a bronze medal in the team all-around. Gerhard Dietrich finished his career in 1970 and closed two years later his teacher graduated from. He remained a year as a coach in sports club and worked as a teacher at the KJS Potsdam from 1973. After the turn he became unemployed and then worked for some years as a janitor. He lives in Brandenburg an der Havel.
