Gerhard Mevissen

Gerhard Mevissen ( born August 27, 1956) is a German artist from Monschau, whose artistic work mainly but expresses in an abstract watercolor painting, in the last creative years in the manufacture of concrete reliefs.

Career

After studying theology in Bonn and socio-educational - and kunstterapeuthischer training Mevissen sat since 1976 intensively with drawing and watercolor painting apart; 1978/79 originated in a six-month stay in Madrid character studies that intensify its engagement with the art on. In 1999 he started his own business and became a freelance artist.

Clearing silence box

The clearing silence Field is a park of concrete pillars relief. The park was built on an already beaten by the storm clearing of an old oak stock. Set up as a square box of 20 mx 20 m, it is formed by a lawn area of ​​16 mx 16 m square, which is surrounded by a two meter wide trail system. On the lawn are 8 concrete pillars ( in measure 80 cm x 80 cm x 215 cm) placed seven standing and lying. For all four sides of the stelae reliefs are mounted from clay-colored concrete, which should address silence in an abstract visual language. There are eight different symbols used, each of which was poured in quadruplicate. The intention of the artist was to create a place that is publicly available and represents a retreat from the hectic everyday life.
