Gerhard Streminger

Gerhard Streminger ( born March 26, 1952 in Graz) is an Austrian philosopher.

Life

Streminger studied philosophy and mathematics from 1970 in Graz, Göttingen, Edinburgh and Oxford. From 1975 to 1997 he was employed at the Institute of Philosophy of the University of Graz, where he in 1978 as a Doctor of Philosophy sub auspiciis Praesidentis rei publicae doctorate.

Three years later Streminger taught as Visiting Professor at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. In 1984 he qualified as a professor for the subject philosophy, and given the title of university professor, was awarded in 1995.

Streminger received several awards: in 1974 a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service and 1978, such the British Council. 1991/92 he sat as a Humboldt Fellow continued his research at the Ruhr- University Bochum.

Streminger considered as a committed naturalist. He is a member of the scientific board of the Giordano Bruno Foundation, an organization to promote the evolutionary humanism.

Work

Streminger has established itself as an editor and translator of the works of David Hume a name. His biographies and comments about Hume and Adam Smith belong to the German standard works. In addition, he also published a series of essays about the two Scottish philosopher. His most important work philosophically God's goodness and the evil of the world deals extensively with the problem of theodicy.
