Gerhard Weikum

Gerhard Weikum ( born September 28, 1957 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German computer scientist and currently one of five directors at the Max Planck Institute for computer science in Saarbrücken.

Life

Weikum graduated in computer science from the Technical University of Darmstadt in 1986 with a doctorate. In 1987, he was a high school assistant or postdoc at TU Darmstadt from 1988 to 1989, he worked at MCC in Austin and from 1989 to 1990 at the ETH Zurich. From 1990 to 1994 he taught at the ETH in Zurich as professor of computer science and moved to the University of Saarland in Saarbrücken, where he worked until 2003 for it. Since 2003 he is Director and Scientific Member at the Max Planck Institute for computer science since 2004 and Dean of the International Max Planck Research School for Computer Science.
