Gerhard Welz

Gerhard Welz ( born 1 February 1945 in Frankfurt ) is a former German football goalkeeper.

Career

Clubs

From the youth of VfL Germania in 1894, the oldest football club based in Frankfurt am Main, emerged Welz joined the 1965/66 season to Viktoria Aschaffenburg in the first amateur league Hesse (Third League ). He then was a season in the squad of FC Bayern Munich, before he played 45 games for two seasons in the Regionalliga West for the first FC Saarbrücken in the gate. In 1969 he moved to Bundesliga 1 FC Nuremberg relegated to the Regionalliga Süd and helped the club in 1971 as the champions to participate in the promotion round to the Bundesliga, where the FCN but failed. Welz played as a goalkeeper total of 90 Bundesliga (89 for the 1st FC Cologne, one for VfB Stuttgart), 137 second-division (36 for Preußen Münster, 72 for Tennis Borussia Berlin, 29 for Fortuna Köln ) and 83 Regional games ( 45 for 1.FC Saarbrücken, 38 for the 1st FC Nuremberg). In addition, he played 16 UEFA Cup and 18 DFB Cup games for the first FC Cologne and four Southwest Cup games for 1.FC Saarbrücken.

He was also the goalkeeper, the victory and Jahrhunderttor in the extension to 1:2 suffered at the legendary Cup final in 1973 against Borussia Mönchengladbach Netzer.

National

Welz wore the jersey of the national team three times, once for the B and twice for the U -23. He made his debut on 14 November 1972 in Winterthur 's 3-1 victory over the B- election of Switzerland. On March 27 and May 8, 1973 Welz was in Duisburg or Randers 5-1 - or 2-0 victory over the U -23 U.S. or Denmark in the gate.

After the active career

After ending his career as a professional footballer was Welz was for a time assistant coach of Stuttgarter Kickers and manager of KSV Hessen Kassel.

He now runs a small restaurant in a district of Bad Wildungen.
