Gerhard Wilck

Gerhard Wilck ( born June 17, 1898 in Lobau in West Prussia, † April 5, 1985 in Rheinbreitbach ) was a German commander ( Colonel ), who defended the German city of Aachen in the Battle of Aachen during the Second World War.

Gerhard Wilck occurred on 20 November 1916 in the army and fought in the 21st Infantry Regiment on the Western Front. He was promoted to lieutenant. His military career at the time of the Third Reich was as follows:

  • As a Major on 27 August 1939 Commander of the Infantry Replacement Battalion 16
  • March 1, 1940 to August 10, 1941 commander of the 2nd Battalion of Infantry Regiment 362
  • Promoted to lieutenant colonel on July 1, 1940

  • Since September 1, 1944 Commander of the 246 people Grenadier Division.

Wilck was appointed commandant of the city of Aachen and surrendered the city on October 21, 1944 at 12:05 clock the American armed forces. After the surrender, he went with 3,473 soldiers in captivity. He was on 26 October 1944 to 31 March 1945 in the prison camp officer Trent Park Camp in England.
