Gerkan, Marg and Partners
Gerkan, Marg and Partners (own shorthand: gmp ) is a German architect firm in Hamburg with offices in East Asia.
Company History
Gmp was founded in 1965 by architects Meinhard von Gerkan and Marg. In addition to two offices in Hamburg and Berlin are now seven more offices of gmp in Aachen, Frankfurt, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hanoi and Rio de Janeiro. For national and international competitions won gmp over 400 awards, including more than 200 first prizes as well as numerous awards for exemplary architecture. The tasks of the company now extends from single-family homes, hotels, museums, theaters and concert halls, office buildings, shopping centers and hospitals to stadiums, research and educational institutions and transport buildings and commercial buildings.
Famous Buildings include the Berlin-Tegel Airport (1975 ), the construction of the Berlin main station and the terminals 1 and 3 at Stuttgart Airport. 1991-1995 ( overall planning and construction ) the New Leipzig Fair for the Leipziger Messe, whose spectacular glass hall was in collaboration with Ian Ritchie Architects, London, was developed. In the years 2000 to 2004, the Berlin Olympic Stadium was rebuilt and thereby realized the installation of a Christian chapel on the ground floor to a design by gmp. For the Soccer World Cup in 2006, the architects designed the Commerzbank Arena in Frankfurt am Main and the Rhein Energie Stadium in Cologne. The office has realized since its inception in addition to these architectural icons also numerous examples of average, investors often unmaßstäblicher architecture (such as the Fresh Market Frankfurt or the shopping center " Saar- gallery " in Saarbrücken ).
In China, gmp, the trade fair and congress centers in Nanning and Shenzhen, as well as the museum in Shanghai Pudong and the Zhongguancun realized among other things, in Beijing. Other projects include the opera in Chongqing and the Chinese National Museum in Beijing. gmp is regarded as the most successful European architecture office in China. Within just six years have been created by 2005 more than 100 designs, of which seven already completed in 2005, thirteen were in the planning and execution of concrete in 30 planning.
Soccer World Cup 2010 in South Africa gmp designed three of the ten new buildings stadium in Cape Town, Western Cape, Port Elizabeth and the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, KwaZulu -Natal.
Gmp for the European Football Championship 2012 planned the Warsaw National Stadium, which was built on the site of the old stadium Dziesieciolecia in Warsaw 's Praga district, and was inaugurated on 29 January 2012.
Soccer World Cup 2014 in Brazil gmp designed three new buildings and conversions of the stadium in Brasília ( Estádio Nacional), Belo Horizonte ( Mineirão ) and Manaus ( Arena da Amazônia ).
Gmp ranked No. 23 on the list of architectural firms around the world with the highest sales.
Project: Berlin Brandenburg Airport
During the construction of the airport Berlin Brandenburg was gmp leader, along with JSK Architects, the Planning Authority Berlin -Brandenburg International ( pg bbi ) involved, with gmp technical and JSK commercial management took over. Because of numerous cost and schedule overruns especially in safety engineering, the airport company of pg bbi announced on 23 May 2012 and filed a lawsuit in June before the Landgericht Potsdam. Here, gmp, who has also designed the passenger terminal of the BER, and another at the planning participants complained that the technical concept of " unnecessarily complex [ was planned as] purely optical point of view, [ so that it is in the implementation ] as barely manageable [ have proven ]. "Especially due to problems with the fire protection system had to be postponed several times, the opening date of the BER. However, Gerkan's lawyers accuse in its defense of the Berlin airport company to have caused the futures and financial chaos itself. In an internal investigation by the Federal Ministry of Transport, the dismissal in hindsight is called the error.
