Germain of Paris

Germanus of Paris, French Saint Germain, (* 496 in Autun, † May 28 576 in Paris) was in the years 550-576 of the 20th Bishop of Paris.

Germanus lived as a young adult in Autun as a hermit before he was ordained a priest in 530. Ten years later he became abbot of St. Symphorien at Autun, again ten years later, 550, bishop of Paris and Erzkaplan of the Frankish king Childebert I.. He was a popular preacher whose use in particular was the prisoner.

Today Germanus is known primarily as a result of churches and monastic foundation, which he outside Paris ( des pres means in the fields producers). The Church of St. Vincent should receive the relics of St. Vincent, the monastery was given to the Benedictines. Germanus was buried in this church, which later received its present name after him, St. Germain -des- Prés.

The church and the monastery developed around the same district of Paris, Saint- Germain ( which is traversed from the Boulevard Saint- Germain ), whose fame has grown with the jazz and existentialism.

Germanus ' Catholic and Orthodox feast day is May 28, his death.

Germanus of Paris is the patron of prisoners and the music. He is called the risk of fire and fever.
