German Air Sports Association

The German Air Sports Association (DLV eV ) was founded in March 1933 by the NSDAP Association for the creation of a unified base for military flight training. The chairman of the association was Hermann Goering, deputy chairman was Ernst Röhm.

Foundation

Already the end of March 1933 - even before the establishment of the Reich Air Ministry - were of Goering all air sports organizations, in particular the Rhön- Rossitten Society and the Aero - Club of Germany (which remained only as a representation vis ), in a single association, the German air Sports Association summarized. All facilities of the organizations listed above, their training facilities and flying schools were transferred to the DLV. The main task of the new organization, which was under the " joint management of the Air Ministry, the Reichswehr Ministry and the Supreme SA Leadership " and and in close connection with both the Reichswehr and the police as well as with the SA, SS, the Stahlhelm, the Hitler Youth the labor service worked, was the military flight training.

The flyer storms of SA have been extracted from the SA and the DLV incorporated. On June 21, 1933 joint meeting of the leaders of the SA and SS Aviator storms took place in Berlin, in which the reconciliation of the flyer storms in the DLV completed and the guidelines for the uniform structure of the entire German "Sport Aviation " were defined. On the occasion of this meeting, Goering directed an appeal to the German air ( in: The Sky Guard, June 1933 ), which stated, among other things:

"The Führer has ordered summarize uniform all the forces of the German aviation. I am therefore agreed with the Chiefs of Staff of the SA and the Reichsführer of the SS, summarize these forces within the German Air Sports Association. There you will form the basis of new flyer storms. "

The disentanglement of the flyer storms from the SA did not mean a weakening of the wartime pilot training, but on the contrary their extension. Incidentally, the members of the DLV had adopted in December 1933 by the Reich Air Act, the same rights as the members of the SA, SS and Stahlhelm, whose aircraft squadrons had also been incorporated into the DLV.

Flyer shaft

The soldiers of the Imperial Army, which occurred from 1933 to the unmasking of the Air Force in 1935 in the command area of the Reich Air Ministry, were formally retired from active service and included in the flyer shaft which was connected to the DLV corporate. In this sub-organization of the implementing agencies of the DLV could not enter commands. These soldiers led next to her former rank with the extension " retired " a leader rank of DLV and distinguishing marks on their uniforms (since April 10, 1934 with two shoulder heald / flaps instead of one ). In 1935, the uniform of the DLV - flyer shaft was with minor changes ( military epaulets / flaps etc. ) for the Air Force uniform.
