German Football League 2

The German Football League 2 ( GFL 2 ), formerly 2nd Bundesliga is the second highest league for American football in Germany. It is hosted by American Football Association of Germany ( AFVD ) and forms the foundation for the GFL.

The substructure of the GFL 2 form the regional leagues that are run by the national associations. In addition to the sporting Qualification 2 specific license conditions must be met from the GFL, the clubs have to prove their efficiency. This licensing process of AFVD was introduced with the 2002 season.

History

The story of the second division goes back to 1982 when it was played in three groups. As of the 1986 season (South, Central, West, North ) was played in four groups. This division existed until the season 1994. Until 1990 the whole still operated under the name Regional.

With the 1995 season, the four groups were reduced to only two groups. The Groups Center and South were merged to form Group South, and West and North to South. This division applies today. Currently playing eight teams in a group, but it always came back by short-term retreats to fewer teams in one season.

In 2008 the 2nd Bundesliga was renamed in German Football League 2.

Game Mode

Is played according to the rules of the German AFVD that are based on the rules of the College Footballs NCAA.

The game is played in each group FFA. Inter Conference games between northern and southern group there are none.

The table obtained after the first season, the possibility of two relegation matches against the GFL last to rise in the GFL. The two last placed the GFL 2 groups rise directly from the regional leagues.
