German Goldenshteyn

German Goldenshteyn ( born September 2, 1934 in Otaci, Romania (now Moldova), † June 10, 2006 on Long Iceland, New York City ) was a Soviet clarinetist.

Goldenshteyn comes from the shtetl Otaci in present-day Moldova. As a Holocaust orphan he learned after the Second World War clarinet with the Red Army, played in military bands. Later Goldenshteyn played with his band at weddings and collected Jewish songs, which were virtually unknown to most Eastern Europeans. In 1994 he traveled to the United States. He has performed as a clarinetist and directed music courses. His last CD, "A Living Tradition " was recorded at 21 KlezKamp with known young Klezmorin. A short time later Goldenshteyn died 71- round fishing on Long Iceland from a heart attack.
