German Historical Institute

As German Historical Institute ( DHI) six scientific institutes in Europe and North America are called, are dedicated to the exploration of the historical relationship between Germany and the partner countries.

  • Rome (Italy): German Historical Institute Rome ( Istituto Storico Germanico di Roma), since 1888
  • Paris ( France): German Historical Institute in Paris ( Institut Historique Allemand Paris, DHIP, IHAP ), since 1958
  • London ( United Kingdom): German Historical Institute London ( German Historical Institute London, DHIL, Ghil ), since 1976
  • Washington (United States): German Historical Institute Washington ( German Historical Institute Washington DC, GHI, GHI- DC), since 1987
  • Warsaw ( Poland): German Historical Institute Warsaw ( Instytut Niemiecki Historyczny w Warszawie, DHIW, NIH ), since 1993
  • Moscow ( Russia): German Historical Institute in Moscow ( Германский Исторический Институт в Москве, DHI, ГИИМ ), since 2005

The institutes are since 2002 part of the Max Weber Foundation - German Humanities Institutes Abroad based in Bonn. This direct federal public foundation comprises not only the historical institutions and the Orient Institute in Beirut and Istanbul and the German Institute for Japanese Studies ( DIJ) in Tokyo and the German Forum for Art History ( DFK ) in Paris. Are financed facilities by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
