German School of Barcelona

The German School of Barcelona is a German school abroad in the Spanish city of Barcelona. It was founded in 1894 by Otto Office mountain, the pastor of the local Protestant community. It still exists today and is run as a bilingual school.

History

After the also previously interdenominational oriented school in 1901 went into the responsibility of a School Association, 1904 first own house was built. The school building in Carrer Moya stood on the site of the previous year built Protestant church. For the opening 81 students attended the school in 1908 there were already 203 and an extension was required. Since 1910, the building was also used for adult education, evening classes were offered for the German language.

1912, the school of the German school authorities was classified as secondary school. A second extension in the same year was necessitated by the increase in the number of students to 363, in 1928 was a third attachment for the now 600 students.

1936 to 1939, the school in the Spanish Civil War was evacuated, the students were meanwhile placed at the Otto -Kühne School and the pupils at the school Bodelschwinghstr Herchenhain.

1941 1,000 students visited the German school. The fourth extension had time soft, even the church building. On June 5, 1945, the school was closed under pressure from the Allies with which Spain had in 1945 committed on the basis of the London Declaration to cooperate.

1947 two other German schools were founded instead, the Escuela Miramar and the Colegio Alberto Magno, in 1950 united the Colegio Alberto Magno. In 1950, the German School of Barcelona was reopened and recognized by Germany as a school in 1955 with a decrease of the baccalaureate. Since 1973 can be stored here also a German - Spanish Baccalaureate.

In 1977 a new school building in the suburb of Esplugues de Llobregat was built. This is also the first Spanish classes have been established.
