The German School Shanghai ( Shanghai DS ) was established in 1995. Since the opening of the new campus in Pudong in 2007, the school consists of two locations - the Euro Campus in Puxi and the German School Shanghai Pudong. The German School Shanghai offers education from kindergarten through high school. Language of instruction is German and it is therefore essential for all students to master German on a native level. With currently about 1200 students and 150 teachers trained the DS Shanghai is one of the largest German schools abroad. The German School Shanghai is a full-time school and in addition to the regular classes, a wide range of leisure activities. The school is equipped with modern facilities such as Library, sports court, gym, indoor swimming pool and a fine arts center with theater, art and music rooms.

Structure and teaching

The German School Shanghai is a fully equipped private school from kindergarten to matriculation examination.

The school is structured as follows:

  • Toddler Group ( 2-3 years)
  • Daycare with preschool program ( 3-6 years)
  • Primary school ( grades 1 to 4)
  • High School (Grades 5-12 )

The grade 5 forms an orientation of the Gymnasium, students can then, of the three German schools ( Hauptschule, Realschule and Gymnasium ) are appropriately informed differentiated. In grades 6 to 10 elementary and secondary students are partially taught in school form-related and partly in secondary school learning groups according to the principle of internal differentiation according to their type of school.

The curricula are based on those of the state of Thuringia.

History

The beginnings

In mid-1995 the School Association of the German School Shanghai was founded, who decided to cooperate with the French school, which one continues to this day. On 4 September 1995, the school system was added with 4 children in a villa near the Hongqiao Lu.

In August 1996, production was moved to five houses of the "New Asia Rainbow Garden" compounds and established a first class 5. The DS Shanghai is now attended by 37 students and 34 kindergarten children. A partnership with a Chinese primary school is built.

Rapid Growth

For school year 1997/1998 the DS Shanghai is a funded by Germany school abroad. The next move is to the end of 1997: the school takes in a former printing house in the Jin Hui Lu. In spring 2000, a neighboring factory is being converted to create additional space for new classrooms. Now a total of approximately 140 children attend the school and the kindergarten.

Between 2001 and 2004 the school was extended again and again to be the rapidly growing number of students and kindergarten children meet. In 2004 already visit more than 500 students and kindergarten kids the DS Shanghai.

In the school year 2004/2005 the High School will be awarded for the first time on the DS Shanghai. Thus, the main goal has been reached: The German School Shanghai is due to the recognition by the Standing Conference a full school which goes from kindergarten to matriculation examination.

New campus, new branch, and even more students

Because of that has become much too small building at the Jin Hui Lu School Association is planning a new campus, which is based in the summer of 2005. The new school at the Gaoguang Lu (高 光 路) No 350 in the large village of the district Qingpu Xujing united here again the German and the French school in a building. At the end of the school year 2005/2006 700 students and kindergarten children go to DS Shanghai.

In the years 2006 and 2007 is still very young Euro campus to include new classrooms, a larger cafeteria and a new " Fine Arts Center " enhanced with music and art rooms, and a theater.

On 3 September 2007, the classes with 60 students at a second site on the Ju Feng Lu is taken in Pudong.

In 2007, the school community, developed a mission statement, "to venture a motto Together. Geborgen grow " and a logo. In October, the new website with a new design and structure goes online.

In October 2009, the new swimming pool will open on Euro Campus. The 1000 student mark is crossed, of which about 200 students go to school in Pudong.

In the school year 2010/2011 of the Euro campus gets a new facade. In Pudong, the secondary is up to class 10 expanded with an expanded teacher staff and has its own floor with playground.
