U 204 was a German U- Boat Type VII C of the Navy.

History

March 8, 1941 to May 1, 1941 U 204 was used as a training boat and from 1 May 1941 as a front boat at the first U- Flotilla. Commander Kell led the boat in the second half of 1941 to a total of three patrols. U 204 was operating from 24 May to 27 June in the North Atlantic and east of the Azores, from June 22 to August 22 in the North Atlantic and west of the North Channel and from 20 September - on his last patrol - west of Gibraltar.

Inserts

On the first patrol sank U 204 on 31 May 1941, the cannon, the Icelandic fishing boat Holm Steinn.

On June 10, 1941, sank the Belgian cargo ship Mercier ( Lage48.5 - 41.5 ).

On the second patrol U 204 spotted a convoy, which happened west of Brest on August 2. Under the terms of pack tactics Commander Kell held as long touch on this convoy until more U- boats could be brought up, then it joined the attack on this convoy - SL 81 - to. On August 19, 1941 U 204 met the convoy OG- 71, from which it sank the Norwegian destroyer KNM Bath ( Lage49 -17).

The sinkings of the small Panamanian steamer C.Ion ( October 5 ) and the British tanker Inverlee ( October 19 ) this boat be attributed. Since U 204 did not return from this patrol, there is no KTB notices about it.

Downfall

On October 19, 1941 at 20.50 clock the sloop HMS Rochester and the corvette HMS Mallow orteten a German U- boat off Cape Spartel and attacked it with depth charges. The corvette HMS Bluebell and HMS Carnation rushed to support, discovered floating in a pool of oil but only remains of the sunken German U- boat ( Lage35.766667 - 6.033333 ). On the basis of the salvaged parts - including a torpedo drive - the boat in question was identified as U 204. The entire crew of 46 was killed in the sinking of the boat.
