U 78 was a German U- Boat Type VII C, which was used in World War II by the German Navy.

History

The contract for the boat was awarded on 25 January 1939 the Vegesacker shipyard in Bremen. The keel was laid on 28 March 1940 the launching on December 7, 1940. Went into service under Captain Lieutenant Adolf Dumrese finally took place on 15 February 1941.

The boat belonged after its commissioning on 15 February 1941 to 28 February 1945 as a school boat for 22 U- Flotilla in Gdynia. As of 1 March 1945 until its destruction on April 16, 1945, the boat was used to supply power to the 4th U- Flotilla at Stettin, however, had its site in pillau.

U 78 was a pure school boat and took during his service no patrols.

Whereabouts

The boat was shot down by Soviet army artillery on April 16, 1945 in pillau at Pier naval service station as the power supply boat for the Army Group Sambia. The boat sank then at the pier.
