German Unix User Group

The German Unix User Group ( GUUG ) is a registered association of the German Unix users. The aim of the association is to promote scientific research, technical development and communication of open systems, which were especially initiated by the Unix operating system. The Association has no profit-making purposes. The consistent promotion of the Unix operating system vendor systems led to success. The support of this development was and is the goal of GUUG.

The GUUG held annually at least two -day conference:

  • The spring meeting is aimed at professional system, network administrators, IT security experts and Unix developers. The FFG is the open house for all the conference GUUG.
  • Taking place in autumn Linux Congress is Europe's most important meeting of the Linux kernel and other free software developers.

In addition, the GUUG organized since 2004 the Free Software / Open Source Telephony Summit ( FOSTEL ), the OpenSolaris Developer Conference since 2007. First time in 2007 there was an international IPv6 Conference ( " European Conference on Applied IPv6 ", ECAI6 ) and an LDAP Conference ( " International Conference on LDAP", LDAPCon ).

In Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne / Bonn, Karlsruhe, Munich, Stuttgart and in the Rhine -Main area, there are regular local meetings. The GUUG publishes a quarterly magazine for members UpTimes out with technical articles on current IT topics. Membership in the GUUG is open to all. For its members the GUUG differs by supporting members (companies) and individual members, provided a reduced fee for students.
