German Town is a city in Shelby County in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Tennessee with 40,203 inhabitants.

History

The first settlers arrived 1825-1830 in the area of German Town. 1833 was the resulting settlement the name Pea Ridge. The plots of the city were created by the surveyor German NT and 1834 the city's name was changed in 1836 in German Town, in which reference was made ​​to the German families who settled there. The city was incorporated in 1841 to Memphis. The Memphis and Charleston Railroad was laid in 1852 by German Town. German Town is a suburb of Memphis, and is bordered to the east by the famous city. It is a quiet town with old trees lining the streets and stately homes everywhere. There is virtually no industry, for German Town is, however, an important and distinctive services and retail location. The town center is dominated by the old town with a railway station built in 1868, which was rebuilt in 1948, and a historic railway line of the Memphis and Charleston Railroad.
