Germanwatch

German Watch eV is established in 1991, a non-profit organization based in Bonn and another office in Berlin. The development and environmental organization committed to global justice and the preservation of livelihoods. The association focuses on politics and economy of the countries of the global North and advocates for disadvantaged people in the global South.

Working methods and fields

German Watch makes an oriented to the common good lobby, campaign, public relations and educational work and applies his professional publications as an important think tank. The focus of the dialogue with politics and economy as well as the information and mobilization of civil society are. The basis of the work of scientific analysis, exchange of information with development and environmental organizations as well as representatives from politics and business. Include inter alia contacts with trade unions, consumer organizations and companies in this context.

Club structure

Financing

German Watch is funded by membership fees, donations, grants from the German Watch Foundation near future viability and project funds from public and private donors.

Members

German Watch has a total of 575 members (as of August 2012). Among 347 voting members, 228 supporting members and 7 honorary members.

Board and management

The Board consists of at least two and a maximum of nine people. He is elected by the General Assembly every two years. The Management Board is responsible on behalf of the members of the activities of German Watch and appoints the management.

Offices and staff

With offices in Bonn and Berlin, a total of approximately 40 employees. In addition, volunteer supporters and freelancers.

Publications

German Watch published publications as editor and also in cooperation with other organizations and publishers. The publications include:

  • CCPI - compares and assesses the climate change performance of 58 countries; published annually
  • Climate Risk Index - examines which countries are most affected by extreme weather events; published annually
  • Foresight - Newspaper which focuses on the fields of German Watch; published as a supplement in the taz
  • Short messages - e -mail newsletter on the activities, publications and events of German Watch
  • Air Compact - E- mail newsletter on climate change with articles on politics, economics and science

Projects and campaigns

  • German Climate Expedition - illustration of climate change via live satellite images. The event is primarily aimed at school classes.
  • Loss and Damage in Vulnerable Countries Initiative - the initiative supports the group of Least Developed Countries ( LDCs) in moving the international community to act with respect to climate change- related harm.
  • Adaptation Fund NGO Network - Alliance of NGOs and interested stakeholders, which monitors the performance of the Fund to mobilize financial resources ( Adaptation Fund ).
  • MakeITfair - European project to raise awareness and mobilize for fair and green IT products.
  • Man MIGHT Milk - Photo exhibition on EU agricultural policy and rural agriculture in North and South.
