Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002

The German preselection for the Euro Vision Song Contest (ESC ) 2002 in Tallinn took place in the Kiel Baltic Hall on 22 February 2002. The event was seen in the First live. Axel Bulthaupt moderated.

Participants

Fifteen titles were admitted to the preliminary decision, more than in previous years. Among the artists were the Weather Girls, Bernhard Brink, The Kelly Family, the comedy duo Mundstuhl and fun punk band SPN -X. Three artists had already represented Germany at the Grand Prix. Nino de Angelo, 1989, Ireen Sheer Joy Fleming in 1978 and 1975, the big favorite of the evening was, however, Corinna May, who participated for the third time at the preliminary after 1999 and 2000.

Tuning mode

The viewers were able to vote by telephone and SMS. Like last year, there were two rounds of voting. The three top rated title of the first passage were in a second run for election. The winner represented Germany in the ESC final.

In the ballot break Schiller appeared with the singer Isgaard and presented the title A beautiful day. The song stayed seven weeks in the charts, reaching number 40

Result

As in previous years, the ARD announced only the result of the second round of voting. Corinna May won with her Title I Can not Live without Music and received 41.1 percent of the vote. Joy Fleming Jambalaya ( Joy to the World) were 32.5 percent Second, Normal Generation? ( Hold On ) third with 26.4 percent. This means that Germany sent for the first time since Silver Convention 1977 an English contribution to the final.

At the finals in Tallinn Corinna May came in 21 and thus fourth from last.
