Germany women's national volleyball team

The German national volleyball team of women is a selection of the best German players representing the DVV in international tournaments and international matches. Your biggest successes were the runners-up at the European Championships in 2011 and 2013. During the division of Germany at the same time the national team played in the GDR. After the reunification of some DDR players continued their career in the joint German team.

History

World Championships

In the 1956 World Cup, the team of the Federal Republic came in 16th and last place thus. In 1960, she was tenth, but this meant the last place. Two years later the West German women managed just one win against neighbors from Austria. From 1974 to 1990, the Federal Republic was involved in every World Cup, however, stood in the shadow of the much more successful DDR selection.

In the first joint World Cup finals in 1994 Germany finished fifth in Brazil. Four years later, however, it was only enough to Ranked 13 In 2002, the German women could not use the home advantage and were in front of their home crowd tenth. In the 2006 World Cup in Japan, the team ended up - in spite of the project, with the new national coach to improve the balance sheet - only on the eleventh. European Championships

In 1958, the Federal Republic was represented for the first time at a World Cup and finished eleventh. Two further eleventh and two tenth places. Olympic games

The Federal Republic was qualified as host of the 1972 Olympics. However, playing at home, the West German women were able to win any of their games and came in eighth place. 1984 in Los Angeles, they were after wins against Brazil and Canada as well as a final defeat against South Korea sixth.

After reunification, the German women qualified from 1996 to 2004 three times in a row. In 1996 she retired from the tournament in the quarter- final against China. For Beijing 2008 and London 2012, the women of the DVV could not qualify.

World Cup

World Grand Prix

The German women participated first time in 1994 at the World Grand Prix in part and occupied the tenth place. The following year they were eighth. The same rankings were in returning in 2001. A year later there was the biggest success so far, as the women of the DVV behind Russia and China were third. After that there was a seventh and sixth. 2005 Germany was back in tenth place.
