Germiyanids

The Germiyan were an Anatolian Beylik with capital Kütahya and one of the famous border principalities (Uc ) of the Oghuz tribes after the fall of the Sultanate of Rumseldschuken. It was from 1300 to 1429.

For a brief period in the second half of the 14th century, the Germiyan were after the Karamanids the strongest power in Anatolia. However, they were later taken over by the neighboring dynasty of the Ottomans, who should establish the Ottoman Empire.

The Germiyan played an important role in the colonization of the Aegean coast by the Turks. The founding of the principalities of Aydınoğulları, the Saruchaniden, the İnançoğlu and Menteşe were all former commander of the Germiyan.

The Beylik was founded by the Afşar, an Oghuz tribe. As a result of the Mongol invasion of Iran left the stem regions to Fars and Kerman and migrated towards western Anatolia, where he remained for a time in the region of Malatya before he moved to Kütahya, where he built the Beylik in a short time.

The Germiyan rebelled in 1283 against their Seljuk overlords, as Sultan Kai Khosrau III. was executed and Mas'ud II, thanks to the Mongols came to the throne. The battle between the Mongol- Seljuq armies of Konya and the rebels from Germiyan continued to 1290. An agreement was only achieved in 1299, with the Germiyan came into the possession of Ankara. As the Governor of the Ilkhanate Amir Tschupan Anatolia took over in 1314, the Germiyan declared their loyalty and focused their raids on areas west of himself.

Their western neighbors, the Beyliks of Menteşe, Aydınoğulları, İnançoğlu, Saruchaniden and Karesi were, while the southern Beyliks the Sahib Ata and the Hamidoğlu left in their early days, the subjects Germiyan to the protection of Germiyan against Karamanoğlu. North of the Germiyan report Byzantine sources from one Umur Bey, a commander and son of Germiyan, said to have been in possession of Paphlagonia. Later it was formed the Beylik the Candaroğlu.

The Germiyan were eventually new Beyliks that were founded by their former commanders, surrounded. Thus there remained the access to the coast or to the Byzantine territory denied. Your powerful neighbors, Karamanoğlu, exerted pressure constantly from the east, and the Germiyan came with time more and more under the influence of the Ottomans, so that they then aufgingen from 1429 in the Ottoman Empire.

The current province Kütahya was initially a Sanjak and later the Vilayet Germiyan until the early years of the Republic of Turkey, as the province after the provincial capital of Kütahya has been renamed.

The founder of the dynasty Beyliks had many descendants, who were in the service of the Ottomans, and even the Republic of Turkey. A known descendant was the Grand Vizier of the 19 yrs. Abdurrahman Nureddin Pasha.
