Gernot Jurtin

Gernot Jurtin ( born September 9, 1955 in Scheifling, Styria, † December 5, 2006 in Altenmarkt im Pongau, Salzburg ) was an Austrian football player. Beginning of the 1980s he formed together with Bozo Bakota the famous attack from SK Sturm Graz and reached with the Austrian national team at the 1982 World Cup in Spain in eighth place.

Life

After his family had moved to Jews Castle, Jurtin played as a teenager when WSV Jews castle. From there he was in 1974 at the age of 18 years for SK Sturm Graz. Right away he became a regular player as a left striker. The blonde mane and hanging out jersey with the number 11 were as much his trademarks as his always sympathetic appearance. He was considered a star without airs and graces. Gernot Jurtin played a total of 373 appearances for Sturm Graz and brought it to a total of 119 goals. He was the first Storm player who scored more than 100 goals in the Austrian Bundesliga - only Ivica Vastić trumped him with 124 hits for SK Sturm.

In the season 1980/81 he was charged with 20 hits Austrian scorer and was the runner-up from Graz. On June 5, 1981, he scored five goals for the 7-0 victory over the Wiener Sport - Club. In the national team he came up with twelve missions, scoring on June 17, 1981 in a 5-1 (2-0 ), the score to 5-0 in the World Cup qualifier against Finland in Linz. Jurtin belonged at the Football World Cup 1982 in Spain the OFB team squad, which reached eighth place; he came in the initial game against Chile and then against Northern Ireland used. - Another highlight in Graz was certainly the 1983/84 season, as a storm in the UEFA Cup penetrated with Jurtin to the quarterfinals, and he in Verona scored a goal in a 2-2 draw. The striker ended his career in 1987. According to the career-ending, he ran in Altenmarkt a specialty shop for tires and car accessories. On the night of December 6, 2006 Gernot Jurtin succumbed to cancer.
