The Gerolsteiner Brunnen GmbH & Co. KG is a manufacturer and distributor of bottled water products.

With about 740 employees and a turnover of 224.1 million euros (2013 ), the company is one of the largest in the Trier region. Gerolsteiner Brunnen is, according to the largest exporter of mineral water in Germany and the world market leader in carbonated mineral waters; its products are sold in over 30 countries worldwide. 2012 sales amounted to 6.2 million hectoliters. Parent company of the fountain is the Bitburger Holding, which holds 51 % of the company. 2013 sales amounted to 6.3 million hectoliters.

History

On January 1, 1888, the mine director William Castendyck founded the company Gerolsteiner sparkling GmbH in Gerolstein and left the Gerolsteiner mineral water initially filled into jars. In November of 1888 the water gained the status of official nature water Gerolstein, which was Prof. Dr. Carl Remigius Fresenius recommended by the Privy Councilor due to its high content of natural carbon dioxide.

The company logo, consisting of an octagonal red star and the lion of the coat of arms Gerolsteiner, was registered in 1889 in the character register and protected. The company has already exported 1895 water to Sydney in Australia.

In 1900 the company turned to glass bottles from Tonkrugversand. Sales amounted to 3.2 million this year for fillings. 1919 changed the legal form to a partnership.

With 158,000 bottles began in 1928 the export to the USA and in 1934 came the lemonade Gerri on the market. 1939 were dispensed 15.6 million bottles, so the company was among the top ten of the German water industry.

By air attacks at Christmas 1944, the Gerolsteiner factory was completely destroyed. Until 1946, the buildings and facilities were rebuilt and in 1948 the first bottles were filled again.

1953 declared the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Agriculture, Viticulture and Forestry that it is a non-profit source for Gerolsteiner sparkling water. Thus, the mineral springs were given by the Rhineland- pfälzischem water law the status of a nationally recognized sources.

In the 1950s, Gerolsteiner took several wells company and became the Gerolsteiner sparkling GmbH & Co. In the beginning was the takeover of Wilhelm flame & Co. In 1969 the Castle Fountain Gerolstein Dr. Peter Dehottay KG and 1970, eventually taking over the Rockeskyller bubble KG. Here, the first paragraph more than 100 million bottles of rose.

1979 joined the Bitburger brewery as a limited partner in the Gerolsteiner sparkling GmbH & Co.. In the same year the St. Gero healing water has been introduced.

In 1984 the merger of the two major Gerolsteiner mineral water fountain " Gerolsteiner sparkling GmbH & Co. KG " and " Gerolsteiner Flora Fountain, Rud. Buse GmbH & Co. KG ".

In 1987, the launch of Gerolsteiner Stille Quelle took place. In 1988 the company was renamed in Gerolsteiner Brunnen GmbH & Co.

In 1989, an expansion phase of the Gerolsteiner Brunnen with purchase of Bad Pyrmont mineral and medicinal springs.

1990 Margon Fountain and the Glashäger wells were acquired.

In 1991, the Phoenix Birresborner spring was adopted.

In 1998, the first Gerolsteiner a refillable PET bottle for mineral water in Germany, which was strongly criticized by environmental groups.

As of 2003, the company focused back on the umbrella brand Gerolsteiner and sold the lemonade brand Gerri to the Sinziger mineral springs and the other subsidiaries of Brau & Brunnen. On 11 November 2003, the Mineral Wells Birresborner phoenix spring was closed due to contamination.

The brands of parent company Gerolsteiner Brunnen Gerolsteiner are a natural mineral waters and St. Gero, a healing water.

The Gerolsteiner brand is also used for soft drinks mineral water base and sodas.

Commitment

The company Gerolsteiner acted as main sponsor for the professional cycling team. Furthermore supported Gerolsteiner from 2006 to 2008, the Germany tour as a co- sponsor and official soft drink supplier.

On September 4, 2007, the Company announced exit after the 2008 season from cycling sponsorship. On 14 October 2008 the team Gerolsteiner finished his work in cycling.

Since 2011, the company is again active in sports sponsorship, as a testimonial Andrea Petković was signed.
