Gerrit de Vries (politician)

Gerrit Abrahamszoon de Vries ( born February 22, 1818 in Haarlem, † March 4, 1900 in The Hague ) was a Dutch liberal statesman. From 1872 to 1874 he was Chairman of the Council of Ministers.

Gerrit de Vries was a pupil of Johan Rudolf Thorbecke and took over after the death of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and in addition the Ministry of Justice. He had a reputation, more of a civil servant to be a politician. After he had failed with a law to a court reform, he resigned and returned after a short time as an MP back in the State Council.
